Welcome to Cheshire Frames

Cheshire Frames is a small family run business which has been established for approximately 15 years. We specialise in offering a personal service with advice on all aspects of framing including various mounting techniques and moulding types.

All frames are made to order and size and are finished to a high standard ready to hang, with acid free mount board used as standard.

We stock a wide range of frame mouldings from manufacturers D & J Simons and if we don't have anything which suits your requirements, or if you are looking to match to an existing frame, then this can be included in future orders.

A full range of Slater Harrison mount board is available and also Arcadia mount board is available to order. Some further details of services offered are as follows:

Mounting Techniques

Single Mounts

Plain single mounts, any width, using acid-free mount board for a crisp white bevel

Double Mounts

Either single colour or multiple colour double mounts to add depth and possible colour definition to artwork and to keep textured work or embroideries away from glass.

V-groove Mounts

Single mounts with a white v-groove bevel cut 10-15mm in from aperture window to create a crisp highlight and add depth without needing a double mount.

Float Mounts

Where artwork is mounted on top of mount board to appear to 'float' in order to display decorative or hand finished edges.

Shadow Mounts

Artwork is laid on top of back mount then a single or double mount is raised off the front of the artwork to give a deep three-dimensional mount with a 'shadow' effect around the edge of the artwork.

Multiple Mounts

A mounting technique using any number of mounts bevel cut leading into the artwork, particularly good for emphasising small objects or pieces of artwork in a three-dimensional 'window'.

Framing Techniques

Standard Frames

All made to measure and finished to a high standard with hooks and cord or mirror plates if necessary, taped and sealed to the back with foam bumpers to the bottom corners of the frame to prevent marking on walls and provide a flow of air behind frames.

Box Frames

Again made to measure and used to frame three-dimensional objects or textiles.

Canvas Inset Frames

Mouldings used to display canvases and other 'view-to-the-edge' artwork that does not require glass in front and creates the effect of the artwork sitting in the moulding and not behind the frame.

Embroideries and Cross-Stitches

Stretched over acid-free board and framed with mounts or straight behind glass.

Oil Paintings

Stretched onto canvas stretcher bars or stretcher bar moulding and either finished to hang on their own or with an outer frame added.

Sports Memorabilia Football Shirts tagged onto Foamcore board and either shadow mounted and framed or fitted into box frames.

Medals and Objects

Mounted in various ways on material backings (suede, velvet, etc.) and framed in box frames as necessary.
